This is a very short, fun interlude in the Hiding Behind The Couch series. Unlike the rest of the series, which is written in third-person (semi-omniscient) past tense, this short story is written in first-person present tense. It has no real bearing on anything else that happens in the series; it is what it is: an Easter Egg.

This is wonderful, and I am beyond words. Thank you, Ayla Starr.
  • Authors for Goodreads on Jan. 23, 2015

    Hilarious.
  • If At First You Don't Succeed on Aug. 06, 2015

This is one of the funniest, yet still erotic, stories I've ever read. It's a real challenge to write comedy, and KC Faelan's got the knack. I usually stick with vanilla-flavoured fiction, which this is not, but I'm OK with that, as the love our two main characters share shines through, as they explore their relationship together. Julien and Evan are just brilliant. But I NEED more Michael! A great read - hot and hilarious.
  • Dying for you and other stories of ordinary madness on Dec. 26, 2017

Four short, interesting observations of human-animal relationships and what they can tell us about our behaviour and mental processes. The author's bio says they're a vet, and they're quite knowledgeable in the social sciences. Nonetheless, the analyses are quite subjective, and there are a few glitches (name inconsistencies and what reads as ESL phrasing). The edition I read was titled 'Dying for you and other stories of ordinary madness', which isn't entirely apt. There's very little in the way of dying (thank goodness).
  • An English Heaven on Dec. 26, 2017

What a lovely short read - complete and perfect in language, setting and just full of English delight, really - after the initial tragedy. Somehow, in so few words, it heals so much more than that one 'small' wrong.
  • The Night Knight on March 16, 2019

Book two in the Guild of Dream Warriors series. I didn't love it with the same fervour as I did book one (My Dream Woman: Book One In the Guild Of Dream Warriors Series), but I still really enjoyed it (hence the five stars). Back in the 80s, I had the dubious delight of watching the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, thanks to a horror-obsessed housemate, so when I think of 'dream warriors', that's where my mind goes, and there was a hint of that in book one. In book two...well, it still doesn't quite reach the horrifyingly maimed slasher level, but there are some pretty scary moments. As the blurb says, "It's hard to sleep when you're afraid to close your eyes..." I read this in bed, in the dark, which added a certain ambience but no nightmares. There's a bit of a love story (F/F) in there, quite a few plot twists and lots of strong female characters. The Night Knight works as a stand-alone story, but I recommend reading My Dream Woman first in order to understand what the Guild of Dream Warriors is and also get a sense of the connections between the characters.
  • Shutter Angel on Jan. 03, 2020

A lovely short Christmas read. Bless Gideon - so capable and important yet he doesn't see it, which is his charm really. He's humble and unassuming. Luca is the perfect match for him. This has all the perfect Christmas ingredients - choir, hot chocolate, a Christmas market...no snow, mind you, but we don't really have white Christmases in the UK. A bit different, a lot festive, sweet and funny - and romantic, of course - the kind of story Dawn Sister does best.
