Barbara Stratton

Biography

Author bio: For almost twenty-five years, Barbara has worked as a Marriage and Family Therapist, treating married and partnered couples, parents with and without partners, as well as individuals of varied ages, facing a variety of relationship challenges. In addition to her private practice, Barbara has developed workshops for parents, and taught Masters-level students in an accredited marriage and family training program. She has worked with organizations developing programs and curriculums that cultivate healthy families and effective parents.
Barbara earned two degrees at the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, followed by a Master's Degree in Education/Counseling. She completed her training in Marriage and Family Therapy and was licensed in 1991.
In 2000, Barbara was awarded "Therapist of the Year" by the Colorado Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT), recognizing both ability and commitment to serve the field of marriage and family therapy. From 1993 to 1998, Barbara served a Governor-appointed position on the Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners. She is presently serving as President-Elect of CAMFT, is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is credentialed as an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Practitioner.
Barbara is proud to be a certified Disaster Mental Health Response Team Member for the American Red Cross. In that role, she responded to disasters in the U.S. from September 11, 2001 through the Katrina disaster of 2005, especially honored to have served a two-week assignment in New York City at the Family Assistance Center immediately following September 11.
Barbara was the featured therapist in the January, 1997 issue of Ladies Home Journal's column, "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" and then featured again in the follow-up column, "Was This Marriage Saved?" in the November, 2003 issue.
Complementing her professional experience is her life experience of building her family and raising two sons with her husband of 42 years.
