The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
on Feb. 14, 2016
This is a strong piece that pulses with anger. It orbits bitterly about a difficult experience at a party and a former lover's failings. It seethes with resentment at a demand of perfection and the destructive effects of being socially judged.
Some excellent, rhythmic language provides the backbone and while at times it doesn't make perfect sense this adds to its emotional integrity.
Her Father's Sword
on March 08, 2016
The Sword Trick is simply written with a fairy tale air. Ms Lee deftly introduces a modern feel for a traditional setting, develops a nice tension that leaves the reader wondering where she's going, and rewards them with a satisfying twist.
Ms Lee you could do more with this. The language could be tightened (I am struggling to imagine a town opening "like a flower"), and the motif of the sword trick is left hanging.
But you used the word credulous very neatly which is not easy to do, and the basis of the tale is sound.
