Movement: A Short Story about Autism in the Future
on May 11, 2012
Movement is the story of Hannah, a young Autistic girl of the future. As her parents consider a treatment that will 'cure' her of her Autism, she is faced with the puzzle of who she is and who she may become if she receives the controversial treatment. Hannah is the voice of the story and Fulda does an excellent job portraying the feelings that Hannah would be battling. The story is well written and Hannah's character is realistic and likable. Hannah's passion for dance and the symbolism of the dance shoes are right on!
The question of a 'cure' for Autism may become a real dilemma. Is a person's Autism a piece of her character or is it a disability? Another book to read along this line: The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon
