BKP Books

Publisher info

BKP (Big Kahuna Publishing) is a small publishing house that focuses primarily on local markets and emerging authors. We don’t charge reading fees or any of that craziness, but we also aren’t a “vanity press” or self publishing model (although we sometimes use POD – Print On Demand – for some of our smaller titles). Advances are negotiated with the author or author’s agent, and we take a percentage of the profits the book makes – as does the author. Standard business practice in publishing, just on a smaller scale.

How do we make it work? The big publishing houses have enormous overhead and focus on the blockbusters. They can’t afford to invest in smaller or local works. If it doesn’t pull in a few million dollars, it isn’t worth their time.

We’re not as big, so we can get by on less. We can afford to take chances.
