This book wasn't at all what I expected. The description and pictures of creepy clowns had me thinking the story would be a freak show of other worldly proportions, where nothing would be based in reality. I looked forward to being taken on that thrill ride as the author promised. Instead, I was treated to a more down to earth reality where outside of the evil spirit clowns, the characters were very believable and real. The author skillfully displayed darkness and strengths in all of us (or maybe just me) in a way that wasn't at all obvious or over the top.
The story starts out strong. Then there are seemingly lost moments where I didn't know where he was going. Don't give up because in short order he pulls all of the elements together and slings you into a sequence of events and hilariously horrific directions that will leave you wanting for more. In the end, I can say I'm happy that this book wasn't what I expected it to be. It was so much more. I hope there's a sequel in the works. I need to know what happens next. I need my creepy clown fix.
