Smashwords book reviews by Brian Bigelow

  • Born Different on March 03, 2012

Very engaging Could you imagine that you began growing a set of wings one day? It's okay to be different from anyone else is probably the biggest point that this book makes. Everyone is a little bit different but having a set of wings, now that really is different. Probably, my absolute favorite part of the book is when Gabe no longer hides his wings. He unfolds them in front of everyone and flies in the open which would seem to me to be a very liberating thing. For me, the cover immediately grabbed my attention and I absolutely had to have a copy which I am reading on my Sony pocket reader. This story is written primarily for young adults but in my opinion will also appeal to older readers like myself. A very engaging story that will entrance the reader and entertain thoroughly and carries through from beginning to end. All in all a quite amazing story to say the least that should captivate anyone very well. I think Faye has actually written a 4.5 star book but that is my opinion.
  • Perfection Unleashed on Dec. 29, 2012

Quite an interesting story of the mutant and human interactions. It makes it a different tale than most. I'm finding it quite frankly, hard to put down. At the same time, quite often I was getting pulled out of the story but not ever enough to put me off completely. The story has kept drawing me back into it. Considering its her first novel I can't wait to see what she'll come out with in the future. Jade is going to be quite the powerhouse in the future in my opinion, she's definitely very gifted.
  • Run LIke Hell on Jan. 06, 2013

This is quite a good story that I really enjoyed and couldn't wait to find out what happens next. Normally I don't read a whole series, might read the first book but I won't bother with the others but that's just me. There's enough action and intrigue with this story that it riveted me. Do believe I'm getting the rest of the series in this case. This was a really good story by a very talented author.
  • Cemeteries of the Heart and Other Stories on April 22, 2013

There were some pretty good twists to the stories and things that were unexpected. The writing flowed well throughout, from beginning to end though I didn't like the last two stories as much. Probably my favorite was the guy wearing handcuffs, chained to his desk.
  • Permanent Winter on July 29, 2013

This book is filled with characters that are unsavory and they do rather violent things. The darkness was unrelenting, I felt. You just don't seem to get a break from beginning to end. It actually seemed kind of boring as I read along. I was expecting, because it's horror, for there to be some suspense in the story. Unfortunately, I can't say there was much of it.
  • Road Rash on Jan. 15, 2014

This was a very enjoyable read that also happens to be a fairly short book. I cracked up throughout, there's a lot of funny stuff. The way the afterlife is laid out is more akin to Buddhist belief than Christian, at least that's what I felt. I will say that was one aspect I really did like a lot.
  • Aquarian Age Virus on Oct. 28, 2015

This isn't quite like the other books that have been written by the author. It's set in the near future, instead of far into the future. There are some interesting concepts that I found quite interesting and was very thought provoking.
