The Screaming Skulls of Calgarth Hall (Interludes)
on April 29, 2010
Rich landowner Miles Philipson wants the Cooks' land to build Calgarth Hall on it. When they refuse to sell, he frames them for theft so he can confiscate their property. The Cooks inflict a curse on Philipson but he only laughs. Then, during his housewarming Christmas party at Calgarth the laughter turns to screams - but the screams are not from living people....
The legend of the Screaming Skulls of Calgarth is one of my favourite ghost stories. It is one of the most dramatic legends of poor people striking back against the oppressive rich through the only weapon available to them - a curse.
The book is simply but vividly written, without going into laborious depth, and strikes up stark images of terror and gruesomeness. I was pleased to see it receive book treatment and maybe in time it will receive film treatment as well.
