Lisa Meyers

Biography

I am a nuclear medicine technologist and studied (minored in) biochemistry and pharmacology. As a nuclear medicine technologist, my job, in a nutshell, consists of watching how your body metabolizes nutrients. The majority of the patients I see every day have diabetes.

But, on a more personal level, both my mother and husband have diabetes. My mother, who lives with me, has type 2 diabetes and was converted from oral medications to insulin after having a small stroke. My husband is a type 1 diabetic. Also, I was the primary caregiver to my grandmother after she became a "brittle diabetic." I saw first hand how the conventional treatment caused her to lose her eyesight and end up on dialysis, even though we followed the instructions we were given to the letter.

For over 15 years, I have tried to learn everything I can about this disease. I have made it my mission to be as well-informed as possible about everything concerning diabetes to help my family and you to understand the disease better and control blood sugar levels. The doctors are amazed with my result.

I LOVE TO COOK! So, when my family refused to do anything unless I could make the food taste great and they got dessert, the challenge was on. Like many of you, I started by looking at the low carb cookbooks that are on the market. And, to my dismay, I found that most of them weren't very low carb at all! So, I decided to write a cookbook as a companion for The Complete Diabetes Handbook.
