- The Variant Effect

Has to go down as one of my favourite books. The history is well explained as are the cause of the changes and the various forms the changes take. The characters are also well developed and have personalities rather than just being tools to move the story along. Will actually buy the paperback to support the author.

Just finished The Last to Fall and wanted to say it's an excellent opening novel for a spin off series. Explains about who the bad guy is and what has happened to the world as well as introducing the various creatures in the canon without it coming across as forced. And then you have the ending which leaves the reader wanting to know what happens next. I personally don't think you have to read the first two Diary of the Displaced books to appreciate this book but they certainly help.
