Biography

No, that's not me in the profile picture. Meet Shilo. She's my online avatar and profile picture because she's much more photogenic than I am. She was also my personality twin - highly intelligent (literally genius whereas I can't make that same claim - I'm more in the neighborhood of 'smart-enough'), slightly obsessive, brave but riding the cusp of crazy (an absolute fierce protector), and extremely hard headed. We were, by nature, so ridiculously simpatico that it was scary. As similar forces of nature we clashed constantly, in a war of wills that she would tell you she'd won at the same time I would assure that I'd been the victor. It was an epic struggle, a tug of war where the red flag ebbed and flowed perpetually back and forth without ever nearing either victory line. And the cause we were fighting for, the reason we battled so fiercely? My husband of course. She chose him from the moment we walked into the shelter and I was invisible even though I was standing right in front of her kennel. We often joke that she manipulated me into talking him in to getting her. I can't admit that of course because then she'd have one up on me and I can't have that, especially now that she's become even more powerful in her new realm. In the end we both benefitted from our struggle because we became smarter, more relaxed and loving. Okay, my husband benefitted most because the two crazy females in his life wound up mellowing each other out. So you see I don't like talking about myself but in talking about her I accomplish two things; 1) you get to know me through her and, 2) she sucks up all the attention as usual and don't think she isn't tallying this one up for herself.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever read that had an immediate impact on you?
I fell in love with reading when I was introduced to the SciFi/Fantasy genres. Before that, reading was more of a chore and it tended to make me sleepy. The first book I read that I couldn't put down - and kept until the cover was falling off and the yellowed pages had begun to get quite musty - was a Ray Bradbury collection. My favorite story was "A Sound of Thunder" because the ramifications of that one simple mistake spurred my imagination to new heights. Even though I'd later read some of the great classics of literature, and without intending any insult here, SciFi/Fantasy simply moved me more. I've been a sci fi geek ever since.
When did you first start writing?
I actually started writing songs and knew I had an overall knack for writing by the time I hit sixth grade. It was always a strength and while the creative side of me wanted to pursue that path, the practical side of me insisted that I probably couldn't make good money doing it. Decades later, the creative side of me is attempting to prove the practical side of me wrong.
