Interesting take on the time travel theme from a pure fantasy perspective. There’s nothing sci-fi about this tale—no heavy discussions of time travel theory, nor any thought given to things like causal loops etc. In this tale protectors of the future travel to the past in order to insure that the past does not change, and therefor the future with it. We’re not told how it’s even possible that the past could begin to change in the first place, and we’re not shown any trickle down after effects when it does. For instance, when Roosevelt decides NOT to charge up San Juan Hill, we’re not told how this effected the future. One would assume that the future would be changed simultaneously with the past, but here—apparently not. Rather, the story focuses on these future time protectors and how they manage to right things in the past once they’ve started to go wrong. Teddy Roosevelt doesn’t charge up San Juan Hill? Let’s go back to a time slightly before the charge and see if we can change his mind through normal psychological manipulations. The story reads more like a light television drama from the 60s (thinking of shows like The Time Tunnel). Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Without getting too detailed, just let me say that if you’re a fan of the paranormal romance genre and aren’t interested in the silly lechery that so often accompanies it, this could be the book you’re looking for. It’s a good clean read for a rainy day with likable characters who just happen to be vested with well-restrained supranormal abilities. There’s nothing occultish here—just people with gifts, most of whom try to use them wisely.
