I was positively surprised by this book. It was very well written with very likebly characters. It's about acceptance and tolerance. The reference to baroque music playing and in particular to our national icon, recorder player Michala Petri, was a nice additional touch. I might not agree on the book's view on global environmental changes, but this doesn't retract on the overall
I downloaded this novel to my e-book-reader last year. But somehow I didn't get to read it until yesterday. I am impressed by this Novel: the characters, the plot and the prose. This a really good book. very much recommended. I look forward to read mor of this author!
This a continuation of '2 promises', with Beth as the heroine, sort of. While the story of '2 Promises' was straight forward, this story is more convoluted, going bacwards and forwards in time, between ancient Egypt, old England and present day.
Great story about Roman soldiers turning into galley slaves because of twisted judgment. Later they escape and help as bodyguards for a man driving two African she-elephants to India. They end up alone with the elephants later meeting up with a magyar-like nomad tribe. I liked the way the attachment between the soldiers and the elephants developes. But there are a lot of twist and turns in this story.
I recommend also the authors other book: 'On the Razor's Edge'
Great action in Australian rainforest in Queensland. Ben Hood does it again, but his luck with the ladies is again a bit twisted.
Recommended: Read the 'Corral Sea Affair'. How it all started. Great story!!
A coming-off-age novel. Young Kevin Johnson has to spend summer vacation with his almost unkown paternal grandparents, while his parents try to heal their relationship going to Costa Rica on a medical mission. A lot of secrets from the past is revealed and love is emerging between Kevin and his cousin Desiree C.
I was somewhat in doubt about this book. There was way too much technical data about flying machines and getting into space. I liked the interaction between the characters in the story, albeit a little sketchy in description. If you like the technical stuff about aluminium alloys and flying aircrafts, this might be the book for you.
Incredibly well written novel. Great characters. I loved the nice Stephen, his mom Ann, and even the bitchy Virginia started to grow on you in the end. Look forward to read the sequel, (hope there will be one!) and to learn how Stephen an Virginia will handle life after this novel's crescendo of an ending.
After a devastating disaster, where many were lost in a flood, the survivers: one woman and 7 girls become a family and settles i Hope. Years after things get stolen from their house. Has this something to do with their past? Read this emotional book, and keep the hankies ready!
A heartbreaking and emotional wrencher, but with a positive outlook. In Denmark we have had lots similar cases, where normal youngsters were institutionalized at mental institutions, because of poverty, prostitution and physical challenges.
Thank You! for a great story!
Mentally strong Kaileigh loses her parents in an automobile accident. She goes through a host of fosterparents before finding the rigth ones. She buys an old mobile van and goes to California, where she becomes a frind with the local diner owner Meg in a small city, not knowing that Meg is the sister of rockstar Danny. Love is in the air, and everything ends well. Looking forward to read the next installment. A very positive book!
Loner Mike Kranton meets beautiful Zelda at the travelling Carnie show. Zelda is involved with some bad men and Mike decides to run away with her, as he has issues himself at home. In a kind of road movie across America, they meet with people and have good and bad experiences. The novel has it's good and not so good parts. I liked particularly the parts when they meet the 'carnie' people, while their clashes with the gangsters were a bit clark Kent/Superman. The novel needs some editing, but overall I liked it.
When two highschool boys dies in a car crash they get some options in heaven. One of these is to go back and look out for Emma as guarding angels. Emma who holds the key to the pass from Earth to Heaven. There is some fun, when the two former pupils are enrolled in Emma's highschool, and try to fit in with their new abilities.
I am impressed with the prose and the imaginative plots and twist of the fate of Greg. Perhaps the midle part of the story is a little too long. One is prone to lose interest in the main plot of the story, until the action picks up in the end of the story, when Greg wakes up.
Interesting novel based on the author's personal experiences working as a KC135 tanker crew chief. The novel is a part love story and in part a hard talk airplane experience. The last part is heavyly encumbered with technical abbreviations and airplane slang. This a problem for non-technical readers. Even if there is a glossary in the appendix, I would recommend the author to 'translate' the important abbreviations in the beginning of the novel, and graduadly introduce the abbreviations in the text, og even reduce the use of the same.(AFB AWOL TDY...)
Briliantly written crime intrigue in sun heated Provence. You can taste the wines, the well cooked legûmes, the meat and the beautifull bulls and ditto women throughout the both slow and fast pace of the book.
Nice hardworking Timothy meets the Jones family, and is attracted to the female members of the family. A story of love and action. Perhaps a little too violent for my taste. The badies are really bad! And the good guys/girls are really, really good!
Brilliant. This is the plot in 'Groundhog Day' with a twist. While Bill Murray in the movie wakes up the same day and tries different strategies to release his time loop, Bobby in this short story discovers he can rewind time to an earlier point. Can he use this to save his marriage, which is failing, and try to undo his past mistakes? Or is it more complex than that?
Sister Gerard is a strong minded and passionate person in her work life helping young girls and women in a shelter. When a young catholic girl contacts her about her unplanned pregnacy, she gets emotionally involved with the young girl. It appears that she somehow know this girl, and it triggers the memories, she has tried to suppress since her own youth. Sister Gerard has to take up the challenge to confront her own troubled past. Very well written and touch important issues of motherhood.
