Oh! I have SO many favorite authors.

Classic writers: Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, JRR Tolkien, Anne McCaffrey, Frank Herbert.

Contemporary authors: George RR Martin, Jim Butcher, Diana Gabaldon, Nora Roberts and her alter-ego JD Robb.

And those are just the names I think of off-hand!
