Describe your desk
I write from a desk of flesh and bone most of the time. My lap serves me much better than formally sitting at a wooden thing. It also enables me to write anywhere, so I sit by the lake, jot down thoughts while traveling, and while propped on the couch with several pillows. The only exception is the bath tub...
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I moved to Boise, Idaho at the age of 9. Throughout my childhood, I struggled with self-esteem and my relationship with my father. He was a good man, don't get me wrong. He did the best he knew how. But our relationship has had lasting effects on the way I view myself. But without those bumps in my path, I wouldn't be who I am today. My writing reflects a lot about those years, I think. And as a teen, I wrote terribly graphic horror stories that scared my mother. I feel deep down that I wanted to impress my father since he was a Stephen King fan.
