I wish I’d had this book as a teenager, when womens’ sexual response was a dark, moist, distant mystery to me. The sex scenes in this book (there are plenty) took me straight into a female, heterosexual psyche and reported moment-by-moment responses. This was more instructive than anything presented during my 8th grade “sex-ed” class. But there’s much more going on here. Just beneath the booze, joints, and genital juices is an inquiry into the nature of enlightenment. And it starts where we all begin—with figuring out how to make it through the night.
