Dale R. Boyd

Biography

Dale R. Boyd was born in southern California in the late 1950's. By the time he was ten, he had found a true love of all things fantasy and science fiction, books and comics in particular. Beginning with Robert E. Howard's tales about Conan the Barbarian and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, he read just about every book his parents would buy him or he could borrow. From his early teens on, he created his own characters, lands and plots, filing them away for some promised future date he would actually write the stories down. As he got older he took the traditional route of what most would call a normal career in the corporate world, but never gave up his love of reading nor the creation of his own little worlds. In large part due to the encouragement of a dear and close friend, he finally sat down and began to write. "A Dragon Rises: Mercenary" is his first published work of fiction, the first of a series of stories.

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
An easy one to answer. Some of these stories and characters were created by me decades ago. To finally give them life, to share them with others who I hope will enjoy them as well, is a helluva kick. I know the joy I get when reading my favorite authors; if I can come within a million miles of giving someone else that kind of feeling, then it's a good day.
What are you working on next?
Now that I have published the third book in the series, "A Dragon Rises: Magician & Thief", I have begun the fourth story, "A Dragon Rises: Half-Blood Queen." Like "Magician & Thief," "Half-Blood Queen" will be a longer tale. In addition to the "A Dragon Rises" series, I am beginning the initial stages of framing out a story I have been mulling over for a long time. Unlike "A Dragon Rises", which is more in the Sword & Sorcery genre, this new book (as yet untitled) will be more along the lines of fantasy.

A Dragon Rises
The West was a vast land, from the eastern highland valleys of Thunisia to the westerly hills of Altria and Borlande, and from the snowy peaks of Fhrolheim to the southern wastes of Qumora. But now an old enemy was once again awakening, beyond the endless sands of the Amber Sea, beyond the sky-shredding summits of the Thronewal. The Dragon was rising after more than one hundred years, and suddenly a small group of unlikely companions would have the fate of millions of lives in their hands.
