Michael Pagano


Biography

Michael is an Oklahoman transplanted to Connecticut and that geographic diversity mimics his career as well. After serving as an Army corpsman in Vietnam, he became a Physician Assistant (PA). He enjoyed the teaching role of being a PA and detoured to graduate school for an M.A. in English that lead to a Ph.D. in Communication with a focus on health communication. As Professor and Chair, he developed and inaugurated the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School, in North Chicago, IL. Then he detoured for nearly a decade and worked in New York City as an Associate Creative Director in healthcare advertising. Concurrently, he served as an adjunct for Cornell University’s Industrial and Labor Relations Program in NYC and taught writing and Communication courses. Today, he continues to practice as a PA and combines that profession with his 25 years of undergraduate and graduate teaching experience. In addition, he enjoys researching and writing about healthcare provider education, as well as health, interpersonal, and organizational communication. For the past eight years, he’s been in the Department of Communication at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut where he is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director. He has published four health communication related books, numerous journal articles, and an e-novel. He and his wife enjoy playing golf, traveling, and visiting with their granddaughter in New Hampshire. He has two sons and an adopted cat.

Tony seems to want nothing to do with a world he views as inhumane and hypocritical, but he teaches Shakespeare to college students.
