Elaine (Mills) Babcock grew up on a ranch “West River” (meaning west of the Missouri River) in South Dakota. At the age of 15, she moved with her family to a farm “East River” in North Dakota, and after high school, went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. With additional education in print journalism, Elaine has worked in education, banking, retail sales, and journalism. She volunteers through her church and is on the lay preaching team there and works on various mission projects. Her greatest social concerns are poverty and world hunger.
For ten years, Elaine wrote columns for the Aberdeen American News and her columns and articles have appeared in various publications. Her writing reflects the small-town and rural Midwest values of connectedness to neighbors and the land.
Elaine has lived in Ellendale, North Dakota, for most of her adult life.
