Ellis Weiner
Biography
Ellis Weiner began as an editor of National Lampoon, then went on to write for ten thousand magazines, including but not limited to The New Yorker, The N.Y. Times Magazine, Parenting, Child, Smithsonian, Chow, and, of course, Air & Space. He was an original columnist for Spy. He continues to contribute to the New Yorker and has been a frequent blogger on The Huffington Post.
He has also had an extensive career as a writer and producer in children’s television.
He and his wife, Barbara Davilman, are co-authors of Yiddish With Dick and Jane, Yiddish With George and Laura, How to Raise a Jewish Dog, How to Profit From the Coming Rapture (all published by Little, Brown), Arffirmations: Meditations For Your Dog, and Cat-echisms: Fundamentals of Feline Faith (St. Martin’s Press). Their The Big Jewish Book for Jews was published by Plume in July 2010.
Solo, he is author of the much-beloved-by-geeks National Lampoon’s Doon (parody of Dune) and Howard the Duck, as well as Letters From Cicely and The Northern Exposure Cookbook (in connection with the tv show Northern Exposure), Decade of the Year (collected humor pieces), Mayflower Manners (sexual etiquette; with Sydney Biddle Barrows), The Joy of Worry (Chronicle), Drop Dead, My Lovely and The Big Boat to Bye-Bye (comic mysteries from NAL), Santa Lives! Five Conclusive Arguments for the Existence of Santa Claus (Riverhead), and the collector’s item (lawsuit; publication enjoined) Oy! Do This, Not That! (Running Press). Sooner or later his “middle-grade” novel, The Templeton Twins, will be published by Chronicle Books.
