The characters felt real to me, the bishop and his wife, and the teenage boys. The teenagers reminded me of similar friends I had in high school (minus the same-sex attraction). The struggles and truces between the bishop and his wife show how a marital relationship takes work. I enjoyed that Paul did find a way to stay faithful as a latter-day saint and use the power of God to not act upon his same-sex attraction. I'm glad for having read this book to gain empathy for Paul's plight. I think the story could have been done more tastefully without as much profanity and some sexual references; however, I know others might say it was only mild.
