- Soul Quest
on May 11, 2011
I received this e-book from the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
The story starts off in the present with Liv and her best friend Jedd. She wants to tell him that she's a human oracle of earth but not sure how to tell him. Liv also doesn't know that Jedd seems to know things that humans should not know about the spirit world. She also thinks that she wants to be more than friends with him. Then the story jumps to the past and tells of how the guardians came about and how they became Liv, Meena, Brayan, and Laith's guardians. It goes on to tell the story of each human oracle, how they grew up and how they found out that they were oracles and had guardians. Then back in the present where the story really takes off. They know they are soul sucking Aengels and Daevas around they just don't know who they are yet.
All four human oracles are running for positions in the freshman class student government. That is how they meet and find out about one another. Together they seek out the Aengels and Daevas and find out who is behind the murders in the city.
This story drew my in from the first page and when I had time to read I just didn't want to stop. I liked how strong all the characters were on their own and as a group. The relationships between the couples was good, I would like to see Liv and Jedd become a couple, although maybe it will be a love triangle with Beau included. The storyline was well written and it took me back to when I was in high school. I was somewhat shocked of how it ended but looking forward to reading the next two books. This was a really good read and I'm recommending it.
- Song of The Moon (Artemis Lupine #1)
on Oct. 19, 2011
Song of The Moon is one of those books that draws you in and doesn't let go.
The way the story starts out I thought it was going in a different direction that it ended up going. The author blew me away with the story and the characters. Artemis is a strong, independent chick. She hasn't had many friends except for her best friend Brett.
I liked Brett in the beginning, he's a good friend but somewhat overprotective. His story line just kinda ends so I am wondering if he will reappear sometime later in the series. When Ares comes along, I totally forgot about Brett. I mean he is like a God, so hot and romantic. Whew I was wishing I was Artemis lots of the time. I mean she has this Godlike werewolf mate plus two more super hot werewolf twins Koda and Matt in the pack. What more could a girl want? At first she is not sure if she should feel the way she does so quickly towards Ares, she falls fast and hard for him. I would too if he came my way.
Ok yes there are really hot werewolves and I mean really hot, vampires and sidhe (fairies) but there is so much more to the story. The plot is well written, the characters are all so likeable and the ending will leave you wanting more. It has everything I love in a paranormal romance... action, romance, hot guys, kick butt heroines and a cliffhanger ending. Did I mention lots of romance and hot guys? LOL
I am reading the sequel right now and it does not disappoint, it is so good too.! I can't wait to continue with this amazing series. A truly spectacular read for any young adult paranormal romance fan!
- Kiss of a Star (Artemis Lupine #2)
on Oct. 26, 2011
Kiss of a Star is one of my favorite sequels. It's a definite 5 star! There is so much packed into those pages.
Artemis now knows that she is half wolf and half fairy. She has two gorgeous guys vying for her attention, although she seems to just want Ares. Now she just needs to learn to fight and use her powers to protect herself and the ones she loves. Her father has turned against her and is now working with the king of the vampires. As if that isn't bad enough she has her fairy fiance's mother trying to kill her, female wolfs trying to take Ares away from her. And to top it all off Ares, her wolf mate still keeps things from her that she could use to protect herself.
I don't want to say much more and give away any plot spoilers. I love how Banks keeps the romance between Ares and Artemis going strong without giving away too much. I would like to see something more develop between Artemis and Achilles. I love Ares but I think he is just to uptight while Achilles is more laid back and I think he would be more fun. A lot of questions are answered for Artemis and for the reader but so many new ones are waiting to be answered in the next book. The ending threw me a curve ball though, didn't see that happening. Still wondering where these new characters are going to fit into the story what is going to happen next. I can't wait for this series to continue!
- Fast Forward: Into The Future
on March 09, 2012
Fast Forward into the future is about a guy named Lucas who dreams of getting his first book published and finding the perfect girl to marry. His family and friends are skeptical about Lucas's book getting published. Lucas himself doesn't quite believe that he will accomplish his dream either. What he sees when he travels into the future sometimes is not exactly how it will turn out.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this. I knew there was some time travel and romance but it's not the usual genre that I read. The beginning started off slow but then picked up and by the ending I was hooked. I liked the characters and the book overall. I would have liked to seen more about the characters backgrounds and just more development overall. The storyline and plot are good and well written. To me it just seemed like Lucas would like a girl and then switch so fast that we didn't get to know anything about her. The last half of the book has some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I liked that we got to see his life 10 years later and how everything really turned out.
You get good characters, romance, time travel and some humor. I am giving this a 3 stars with parts of it 3.5 stars. Overall it's a quick, enjoyable read. This e-book was given to me as a review copy. This did not affect my review in any way.
- Violet Midnight
on May 03, 2012
Violet Midnight is a story of love with lots of secrets. Jane is an enchanter who has been living on her own since she was seventeen. She loves living alone surrounded by Jasmyn Lake. Elias is an artist who is coping with the loss of his twin brother and his crazy family problems. Jane has been dreaming about Elias for some time while he sees purple glitter that he comes to realize is Jane.
This is hard for me to review because this book was a bit confusing for me. In the beginning I was lost on what was going on most of the time. It flipped from the past to the present so much with no timeline/date. I also felt that everything was rushed. Jane and Elias are meant to be together but everything between them felt like it happened so fast. There are a lot of unawsered questions. We just get a glimse of the main characters backgrounds. The other characters kinda pop in and out of the story. We know that they're enchanters but that's it. No more information on them. We don't really know what an enchanter is, only that they control the elements. I would have liked to knew more about what an enchanter is. There are a lot of twists and turns, romance and some humor. The ending was a bit odd for me, it left me feeling like what just happened?
I liked it for the most part, just didn't love it. I will probably read the next one just to see what happens. Sorry if this left you confused but that is how I felt reading this book. This e-book was given to me for review from the author. This did not affect my review in any way.

Familiar is a short but really fun read!
Brenda is a witch in training who thinks she picked out her familiar, a kitten. Only to find out the her adorable kitten is really a hot shapeshifter on the run from the bad guys.
This was a short story that I read in like an hour. It is a quick read and there is not enough time for much background information or character development. This did not keep me from loving the story though. The plot and the characters were well written. I loved the cute romance that developed and how the story flowed along. I would love to see this written into a series, it's that good. This is a 5 star in my opinion and one of my favorite short stories.

- Shimmerspell: The Shimmer Trilogy, #1
on June 17, 2012
First I have to say that I love the cover. This is what first drew me to this book. I love faerie stories, they always seem to bring something new.
Jensen has lived her entire life on the run with her con artist sister Lorlei. Things are going ok for Jensen until one day she meets Liam, a total hottie at school. Things turn upside down for Jensen. She discovers that she can see through glamor, her sister disappears and that's just the beginning for Jensen.
I truly liked the characters. Jensen is a strong, likeable person, Liam is a hot, mysterious faerie and I loved the twins, they are just so different from each other. This novella was well written and the story and world building was good. I could visualise what the author was describing. There was lots of action, some mystery and a little romance. I'm interested in finding out who Lorlei really is and what is next for this series.
It was a good novella that I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love fae, you need to read this novella. This e-novella was given to me for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
- The Ultimate Sacrifice
on Aug. 28, 2012
I really enjoyed reading The Ultimate Sacrifice. Some of my favorite books has a school/campus setting. So yes this is now on my favorites list. This is about friendship and just what you will sacrifice for those you care about.
Kassia lives at the Glendale Institute, a school for the gifted. All the students here have some kind of special gift or power. There are mind readers, dreamers, compellers and ones who can see the future. Then there is Kassia, a mind blower, someone who can cause pain and kill with just her mind. She hates her gift because most of the students are afraid of her and she doesn't want to hurt her anyone if she gets angry. Kern, a head demon is determined to kidnap Kassia and turn her against the world. Kassia and her friends set out find a way to keep her safe. Will Kassia make the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends?
This for me was an interesting read, I loved how the author brings so many different elements into the story. Friendship, romance, action and of course all the cool gifts. It was also an emotional story, I laughed and was sad right along with the characters at times. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.

- Damaged: Natalie's Story
on Aug. 31, 2012
Damaged: Natalie's Story is such a heart wrenching story about a teenage girl who has to overcome major obsticles after being in an abusive relationship. This is completly out of my genre of reading. I have never read anything like this, I usually stick with fantasy. The author asked me to read this and I agreed. When I started reading it I just wanted to put it down and move on to something else, because I don't read these type of books. I am so glad that something told me to go ahead and keep reading. Once I started I did not want to put it down.
Natalie is a seventeen year old girl who falls for the charming guy Josh. Everything goes great until he gets angry with her and then the abuse starts. Each time, it gets worse and each time Natalie takes Josh back. She feels it's her fault that she is making him mad. The last time Natalie ends up in the hospital clinging to life with permant brain damage. The story then follows Natalie's struggles with learning to talk, read, write and do all the normal things we take for granted. During her struggles she becomes depressed and turns to alcohol to take away the physical and emotional pain. She continually blames herself for what has happened to her. Along the way she improves physically but it takes the love and support of her friends and family to help her put the past behind her and move on. I loved the ending.
This was such an emotional rollarcoaster. There were so many ups and downs, I was frustrated with what Natalie was doing to herself once she started to get better. The writing was done so well, I felt like I was one of Natalie's friends. I have never been in a situation like this and cannot even begin to imagine what someone like this goes through. I am so glad that I read this, and I am recommending others read this.

- If I Die Young
on Oct. 21, 2012
If I Die Young is such a heartwarming story. The writing makes it feel so realist. There is a nice mixture of drama, friendship and romance.
Caelyn is a typical teenager who has asthma. One day at school she gets shortness of breath and collapses. She comes to find out that she has heart failure. As the story progresses Caelyn is told that she will need a heart transplant and soon to survive. The first half of the book is very sad and just breaks your heart reading it. I can't imagine having a loved one dealing with something like this. Caelyn and her best friend Lindsy's relationship was so strong. Lindsy was there for Caelyn throughout her entire ordeal.
The book is written from Caelyn' point of view. You really get to see and feel her struggles and will to survive. I really enjoyed the second half of the book. Austin comes into the picture and brings joy and happiness into Caelyn's life. I liked Austin but didn't agree with some of the things that he did. I did come to realize why he felt the way he did. There is a twist towards the end of the book that I didn't see coming until it was almost revealed.
Overall I enjoyed reading this. This is not a genre that I normally read but there is just something about Jager's writing that I enjoy. You get drawn into the story right from the beginning and you don't want to put it down.

- The Book of Lost Souls
on Nov. 24, 2012
The Book of Lost Souls is an exciting, humorous read with great characters and lots of laugh out loud moments. I'm giving it 4.5 stars!
Ivy, the main character is a witch who lives in Northwick where Regulars (humans) and Kindreds (supernaturals) live. Ivy has a major crush on Dean, popular guy in school, who seems to not know that Ivy exists. Ivy decides to change her friends pet lizard Spike into a human date, hoping Dean will finally notice her. Things start to go wrong from here. Ivy and her friends get into trouble when Spike goes missing. Their punishment is cleaning up the graveyard. This is where Ivy sees a mysterious man who seems to disappear into thin air. She also comes across two books and finds out there is a third book missing. Someone has the missing book that is pure black magic. Ivy has the other one. The book is spooky and full of black magic spells. Will Ivy turn to black magic like her father? Will they find Spike? You'll have to read The Book of Lost Souls to find out!
I could not and did not want to put this down. I was drawn in right from the beginning. If I was a Kindred I would love to have been a witch like Ivy. She has unique, interesting and fun friends. There is Raven and her brother Gareth, they are vampires. Shayde and Bane, twin werewolves and Nick, a totally hot demon. These characters and this entire story felt like it could be reality. I loved how Ivy and Nick could just send off spells quickly, sometimes with just one word. The lizard turned human, Spike, I really liked this character. He made me laugh a lot. Raven, love her name, is the kind of friend that you get into trouble with. Nick is just a complete hottie and a demon. I love the bad boys in books. These were my favorites in the book. I felt connected to these characters and this story, it just felt like I was right there, not reading about it.
There is always something happening. You won't get bored and will not want to put it down. Like I said it is humorous with lots of action and some romance. The ending was great but leaves it open so I'm hoping there will be a sequel. This was such a fun read, I was sad when I finished it. I will definitely read more from this author in the future. This e-book was given to me for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
- LS: Deception
on Dec. 19, 2012
Deception is a good sequel to this series. It had been a while since I had read the first one so I was trying to remember what had already happened. This one picks up where The Beginning left off.
Stephen and Lisa are back together as a couple. While they are still trying to figure things out with their relationship they are also working on their powers. Lisa has grown really strong in her powers, there is so much more that she can do. Then Stephen gets another house guest, another cousin. There was something about her throughout the book that I just couldn't put my finger on. Some things were answered from the previous book but this one created a lot more questions.
The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that the characters are just so nice. I know this may sound strange but even when they were mad they were still like super nice and friendly. It just seemed a bit fake to me. Otherwise I enjoyed it. I think this is a good, fun series. The author has left us with another cliffhanger ending. It sounds like it's going to get more interesting and hopefully we'll learn more about the characters and their powers. I'm looking forward to reading the next book and see what happens next.

- Shelter (Blood Haze: Book One)
on May 05, 2013
This book was a fast read. It flows along at a smooth but fast past. It definitely was not what I expected at all when I started reading it. I know this is fiction and all but this story was so unbelievable to me. Just hours after the main character Alice meets Kai at a party they are suddenly so in love with each other and are telling each other that they love them. Alice's mom being fine with Kai living with them just after meeting him and not caring that they are sleeping in the same room. I mean really? The first half of the book drove me crazy, especially Kai. He was so obsessed about Alice, calling her constantly and wanting to know what she is doing all the time. I know he has been through a lot in his life but come on. He was overly clingy and in my opinion stalker like. The second half of the book was better and I hope the next books are better. I did like Max, he was not afraid to be who he is. I feel that this story lacked character development and just a good plot. I will read the next book because I want to know what happens. - Chrysalis (A World of Bid'A Ban Novel)
on Oct. 07, 2013
Chrysalis is one of the best books that I have read in awhile. Having read other books by this author I knew this was going to be a good one too. I just didn't realize that I would love it so much. I loved the supernatural world that the author created. I think it would be a fun place to visit or even live. The characters were very real and the story flowed right along.
Ayda is a supernatural being, an achina. She is part human and part Thunderkin. She was created for one purpose, to kill Adrian, the Thunderkin heir. After a couple of attempts she comes to realize that she has feelings for him and she can't kill him. So instead she decides to become his protector. Once his uncle Cheveyo finds out things get turned upside down. Then there is this weird supernatural, Wem that has gone rogue and is out to destroy Ayda, Adrian, their friends and family.
There is a lot going on throughout the story. Action, suspense, friendship and romance. There are lots of twists and turns that will leave you wanting more. I could not get enough of this story, it was so good. This will appeal to fans of fantasy and/or dystopian. The way the author combined the two really made the story unique and something special. I continue to be a fan of this amazing author. I can't wait to see what is in store for book two.

- Untraceable (Book 1: The Nature of Grace series)
on Oct. 24, 2013
The Nature of Grace is one incredible heart pounding read. I was drawn in right from the start.
Grace lives in the mountains and has grown up in the woods learning survival skills from her dad. That is until he came up missing. Grace is on a mission to find out what happened to her dad. Everyone in the town seems to think he is dead and that it was an accident. Grace doesn't think this is true. Her dad knows the woods like the back of his hand. While the story focuses mainly on her finding out what happened to her dad Grace also discovers some disturbing things going on. While in the woods one day she discovers two men bear poaching. When she tries to get away she is rescued by Mo, a handsome guy about her age. Grace and Mo become almost inseparable while hanging out in the mountains/woods. They go fishing a lot and together they discover they have more in common than just the love of the woods.
This book has so much to offer that I don't want to give to much of the story away. There is lots of action, suspense and romance to keep you hooked throughout the story. I really enjoyed reading this, it's been a while since I have read anything other than fantasy. There is a cliffhanger ending that will not disappoint. There is also a survival tip at the beginning of each chapter which I thought was pretty cool, learned some things. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
