  • Tales of the Circle Book One: Welcome to the Circle on Dec. 22, 2013

    L. L. Craft's Circle is comprised of a group of dominant personalities that would make most of us shudder in the boardroom or the bedroom. From the safety of our eReaders, we experience the BDSM "game" at a level not found in other popular novels. Craft clearly knows this lifestyle intimately. While each character is dominant in all aspects of life, admittance into the Circle is only allowed after a new member is "broken" by an existing member. We see one such initiation in this book, allowing us to view the submissive side of this character and to understand that this submissiveness is a necessary element in the power hierarchy of the entire group. The dialogue between the various characters is very real and endearing as well, especially as we see the difference between the Circle personas and the characters' "real life" personalities. Craft's sense of humor comes through clearly in each character. In spite of the often serious subject matter, there are several scenes that are downright funny. There were two in particular that I had to reread, just because the situations and dialogue were so enjoyable. It is the ensemble of multi-dimensional characters, even more than the graphic sex, that makes this an excellent read. Craft lulls us into what appears to be a spicy, yet predictable, romance. Don't be fooled. This novel will have you pondering the characters long after you read the last page and looking for the next Circle installment.
  • Black Friday (Tales of the Circle series) on April 07, 2014

With each Circle Tale, Craft draws the readers closer to the characters, making them even more endearing. Black Friday is the story of Lady Mercedes, the owner of a fetish club. Like the others, this installment is entertaining and sexy, giving readers an authentic view into a place that most don't dare to imagine visiting. As with many of Craft's characters, Mercedes's past has driven her to sexual dominance to make up for the lack of control over her life when she was younger. This gives readers insight into the minds of those with different sexual tastes- insight that the reader may transfer to a better understanding of people in general. The story is fun, arousing, and even (dare I say) heartwarming, and it leaves the reader with the hope that even the Broken ones can find happiness and normalcy in life and relationships.
