Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in the High Rocky Mountains in a little town called Idaho Springs. My father worked in a hard rock gold mine, the Lamartine. That didn't pan out (pun intended) so we moved to Kansas. That was okay but not good, so we moved to California. Of course I didn't have much say in all this because I was just a kid. Anyhow, California was great. Eventually we bought a small ranch north of Sacramento. So, yes, I'm basically a country boy, but not without a certain amount of sophistication I've acquired over the years. And, yes again, being a country boy (or man, now) has influenced my writing. A lot. As they say, you can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy. Or man.
When did you first start writing?
When I was nine.
