I am a huge fan of historical romances; I have been ever since I read my first one and that love has not subsided since. However what first drew me to reading and that thrill of new discovery was paranormal romance novels.
Author Elizabeth Marx gives us a wonderful mixture of both in her novel, Descent of Blood, the prequel in the Red Veil Series.
I loved this! It was
two of my favorite genres together in one book, combining that old world feel, dialect, and ways of the time with vampires, war, lust, and blood. The only thing that could have possibly made it even better is if the men were Scottish and were kilts. LOL
Descent of Blood drew me in from the very start, capturing my attention with Meridian and then with Severian and knowledge of the vampires and the war that is going on.
Meridian and Severian’s really is a love at first sight—they are, the way I see it, mates. Vampires call it the red veil. It is a very rare thing that happens between a human and vampire, and can drive vampires to the brink of insanity, creating a need so deep for the human that calls not only to their hunger for blood but sexual desires too.
While at times bloody Descent of Blood is the start of an extremely detailed and intriguing world and race of people. I can only image where this series is going to go, but if the prequel is anything to go by then it is going to be amazing.
Overall I really enjoyed Descent of Blood and look forward to picking up book one, Ascent of Blood and seeing how the Red Veil series continues! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good paranormal romance read and likes historical romance.
