Biography

GAINES BISHOP has traveled the world for decades as a solo woman on a budget. Through visiting 20 countries on five continents, she has developed a good sense of what it takes to travel alone safely. She volunteered in the U.S. Peace Corps for two years and has lived in 4 countries outside the U.S.

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the country in north central Texas where we had to use our imagination to entertain ourselves. I had my own horse and was allowed to ride her anywhere I wanted. I think the lack of electronics and other stimulation pushed us to create more and for me to write.
When did you first start writing?
I started keeping a diary when I was young and once I started traveling, I kept a journal of each trip. I now have a bookshelf full of travel journals!
