A group of boys, led by Ian McCloud, set out to find their missing friend on the mysterious mountain at the edge of their rural community. They come to find the mountain's only resident is a conniving old man with a pack of dog-like beasts at his command. Through their adventure the mountain's secrets are revealed and the boys learn of their own family connections to the old man's troubled past.
