Publisher info

Judah Freed is the author "The Dawn of Global Sense," his fourth book. Judah withdrew the title from publication in 2015 to clear the marketplace for his fifth book, now in final revisions -- MAKING GLOBAL SENSE: Grounded Hope for the 21st Century inspired byThomas Paine's Common Sense. The book shows why and how a billion awakened people on earth, despite the turmoil, already are daily building our world anew. Standing up for mindful self rule and open democracy makes global sense now.

Judah's earlier nonfiction books on global thinking won two international Nautilus Awards for social change and a Colorado Evvy Award for personal growth. His indie imprint in Colorado was Media Visions. He works now as Hoku House on Kauai in Hawaii.

Judah retired in 2009 from a 17-year career covering interactive digital TV, the emerging internet, and distance learning. He wrote for the top trade magazines in the USA and Europe, such as MultiChannel News, TV Technology, and Euromedia. He wrote a 1998 book on educational television prospects for The Financial Times UK. He wrote and spoke internationally about media social effects talking about "deep media literacy" while evolving his ideas on the power of a global sensibility.

His day job is from home is directing communications for RIP Medical Debt, the national charity forgiving medical debt. Good work.

Judah is a past president of the Colorado Authors League, former trade shows board chair for the Colorado Independent Publishers Association, a former director of the Denver Press Club, and the founder of the Denver Book Club. He remains a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association, Society of Professional Journalists, National Society of Newspaper Columnists, Coalition of Visionary Resources, and other publishing trade groups. He founded the Kauai Independent Authors and Publishers Association.

Through Hoku House, Judah works as a book publishing consultant. For indie authors who want to publish world-class books, he advocates self-education first. How does one spot and navigate book trade realities? How does one spot and avoid predators? Mastering the craft and business of publishing, Judah believes, helps indie authors and publishers better direct their own fate.

Judah is a cancer survivor going after his soul work on Kauai by writing his new book of heart and mind, Making Global Sense.

Smashwords Interview

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer the iBook reader from Apple, which works equally well on an iphone, ipad, ibook or full Mac. The Nook and Kindle also are excellent.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My rule of thumb is doing at least one marketing action per day. This could include sending out a book for review, posting a useful comment on the social networks, arranging a radio interview, or endorsing a related book by a fellow author. At the end of a year, I will have done at least 365 promotional actions, which surely must help build the audience.
