J. Adams

While the author loves all of America, he prefers the American Southwest. A local saying is that Fort Worth is where the West begins: Dallas is where the East peters out. J. Thoughts are real: obsessions take over. Gillian Colbert creates strong characters who dare to find out what it's like. They can dream another time. J. Adams
  • His Gift on July 18, 2011

Gillian Colbert takes care to choose just the right word. Her women go where others shy away and settle for less: Colbert's men are there for her; Colbert's scenarios are real. J. Adams
  • Coming Out of Her Shell on July 18, 2011

Voyeur erotica is new to me, but I find something fascinating about Gillian Colbert's style. I suspect she writes slowly and chooses her words with care, as a jeweler sets just the right stone. I think Colbert writes honestly: I know she writes well. For erotic fiction, hers is benchmark. J. Adams
  • The Substitute on July 21, 2011

I'm always surprised at how hot some erotica can be. Wow, and a good story, too, but the most pleasant surprise was that Lindsay Delagair chooses to write complete sentences in the active voice, use correct grammar, do a spell check, and a proofread. The lady is an author. My objection is a personal one: I just have an aversion to a cuckold husband. Wow...hot erotica. Four stars. J. Adams
  • Trinity of the Sands on Aug. 03, 2011

The free review sold me on this story. I bought "Trinity Sands" because I'm a nut about the Manhattan Project and about New Mexico. Also, I'm a nut about a properly constructed sentence. Alistair Ainscott writes with nouns and verbs, and leaves the modifiers out to die in the sun. While I don't much like sentences begun with articles, it is trendy, and the author does compensate by using the active voice. Ainscott understands the importance of choosing just the right word. It matters. One last dead giveaway this guy's a pro: He knows his subject. Four stars. J. Adams
  • The Viper Contract "A High Tech Aviation Thriller" on Sep. 10, 2011

It's been a while since I liked a book this much: It's a good thing, too, because at six dollars for this eBook, I'll be reading at lunch instead of eating.
  • Searching the Unknown; Guide to Understanding the Paranormal on Sep. 21, 2011

Thank you, Mr. Bertolini, for sharing your knowledge. What could be a better ghost story than a true one, and a scary true story, for free? I very much enjoyed this read. J. Adams

Cheat, and you will get caught. Maybe not right away, but karma has a long memory. When your wife forces you to take your medicine, I think this is how it will feel. "You," she will say, "you must watch. Now, go over there, sit down, and watch me having some fun."
  • 50 Ways to Kill Your Husband on Oct. 20, 2011

Laura Payeur, this excellent story should be in The New Yorker.
  • My Operation: Part 2 on Feb. 21, 2012

Darn it, I thought only I knew of Professor Strunk and E.B. White. Stick around, Ernest Winchester, because America needs a guy who writes so well. I lost Mom, Dad, and a sweet sister to the Big C because they were a little tardy with their checkups. Thanks for the warning--I have a feeling you'll beat it. You're getting a lot of prayers. Keep writing.
  • Desolate on Feb. 21, 2012

Laura Payeur can create mood like nobody else. I like her writing. Four stars for another excellent story that should be in The New Yorker.
