A Bride for Tom

The characters are likable and the story flows smoothly. I think the writing was weak when it came to the setting. It could have taken place anywhere. It was hard to get a sense for the time as well. Some of the dialogue and interactions between the characters seemed contemporary. Over all, it's okay for a light, fun read but people who really like to get "lost in the past" should look elsewhere.

I don't normally read steampunk, but I had no trouble suspending disbelief with this. The story moved along at an engrossing pace. On the other hand, I kind of felt that perhaps it was a little rushed and there could have been more development of the backstory and characters. This may have helped the reader better understand the alternate world that was the setting. Still, Kali is an admirable heroine - tough, creative and assertive. The is witty and seems realistic.
