Biography
I am a creator, the created, transient and fixed. I like playing with roles and directing my own theatre. Ilyria Moon is my pen name for the novels I write and the persona is one facet of my complete self. I enjoyed writing since childhood and when I began songwriting in my teens - I played music since I was 3 yrs old - this love translated into lyrics. Through my experiences in the music industry, I decided writing 'fiction' would be a healthy outlet for the odd and, quite frankly, bizarre scenarios I've been in, and the colourful characters I've encountered along the way.
My first project was 'Swallow' and it was a labour of love. Its inception came when my then boyfriend skipped off to a stone circle and I had time to fill. What better use of time than creating something? Much mirth ensued, until I got to the dreaded middle section of the novel, and so I hid it away and forgot about it. Several years later, during a house move, I came across it. It needed a LOT of work, and my writing style had changed, so it was pretty much back to the drawing board, but at least I had a map to guide me this time. I completed my manuscript in 2009 and spent six months editing and polishing it to perfection. Now I am working on 'Headliner', which is a sequel in that it follows on from the events of 'Swallow', but it can be read independently, as there are only a few characters in the new book that survived from the first. 'Headliner' introduces several new characters and a new setting, and I'm having a lot of fun writing it. I hope my readers have the same pleasure!
When I'm not writing, I'm singing or playing music. I completed a rock album in 2008, under the name Queen Tantrum, and I do session work for various record labels and production houses, performing under the names Emma Diva and Emma Sweeney. I also tutor various classical instruments and work as a voice coach. In 2011, I will be launching my fashion company, Tall Threads.
