These stories are about people trying to get out of bad relationships, sometimes succeeding and sometimes not. In Tail Lights, 16 year old Sharon, abandoned by her boyfriend, finds a heartbreaking way to solve her problems. David, in Calling Poppy, is forced to give up his chance for happiness when his wife finds an unexpected way to blackmail him. Innocent young Jade, in The White Box, has moved in with Nigel, her boss, and is letting herself be moulded to his peculiar tastes, wrongly believing that she is moving up in the world. Rich or poor, all the characters reach a tipping point when they realize that they have been lying to themselves. At times laugh out loud funny, the stories are keen and moving observations of human behaviour.
