Jack Preston King

Biography

Jack Preston King lives in Tucson, Arizona, with his wife, author Esra Free, their children, Jerrod and Merissa, and more stray and rescued animals than he cares most days to count – though, at the time of this writing, the herd includes eight dogs and well over a dozen cats, most of them black. "Missing Time and Other Stories" is his first short story collection. His book-length memoir "Autobiography of an Earthling: One Man's Spiritual Journey To Embracing His Humanity" is also available from New Paradigm Press, along with a variety of shorter works including "Warriors, Peacemakers and the Embarrassing Question of Love: A Peacenik's Memoir of the 1991 Gulf War," "Steal This Hero: An Abbie Hoffman Love Song In Two Verses, One Chorus and a Coda" and "The Weight That Isn't There: Anxiety and Finding the Courage to Be."

A violent, riotous tale of one damned soul’s desperate bid to escape a “ringed” Hell structured on Dante Alighieri’s classic The Inferno, with a strangely sympathetic fallen angel and the Roman poet Virgil in hot pursuit. A fantastical blend of the Classical and contemporary!

If I knew where to write to recommend a story for "best of the year" status, I would send a copy of “Heritage”… What starts out as a sort of obvious little ghost story develops into one of the most remarkably moving commentaries on the interconnectedness of all life … that I have ever read. This story will forever change the way you look at your yard, guaranteed!–Janet Erinda
A World In Edgewise: A Jack Preston King Six Pack (Plus Two)    by Jack Preston King
Price: $2.99 USD. 23660 words. Published by New Paradigm Press  on November 11, 2011. Fiction.

I recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys well-crafted, mind-bending science fiction. It’s more the psychological variety of SF than the "nuts and bolts" kind, but in my book that's a good thing. If you prefer deeply realized, often troubled, but always interesting human characters to shiny spaceships and aliens with laser guns, this is the book for you - Janet Erinda, Amazon.com Review

"Buckle in for this riotous roller-coaster ride through a landscape of dreams, alien teaching machines, and characters who never, once, turn out to be quite what they seem... Philip K Dick would love this book! And if you don't recognize PKD, the master himself, lurking behind King's character H. F. Kurtz, as this book so eloquently recommends, "pay attention, you fool!" – Vincent Casspriano, Jr

This is spiritual memoir at its finest, at once insightful, funny, honest and profoundly moving. But more, I am amazed how artfully, yet accurately, King manages to weave a literal treasure trove of important, hands-on spiritual knowledge into this deeply personal narrative. - Vincent Casspriano, Jr., author of "The Simplest Path to Personal and Planetary Awakening: Free Your Mind"
Warriors, Peacemakers and the Embarrassing Question of Love: A Peacenik's Memoir of the 1991 Gulf War    by Jack Preston King
Price: $0.99 USD. 4100 words. Published by New Paradigm Press  on March 17, 2010. Nonfiction.

Of this I was certain: To meet the violent hysteria of war with an equally hysterical peace movement could only create an irreconcilable "Us-Them" situation. As with the war, there would have to be winners and losers. But to meet a hysterical world with an open heart might bring a lasting peace, an "Us-Us" situation in which everybody won. And to be so idealistic, so Utopian, was embarrassing...
The Weight That Isn't There: Anxiety and Finding the Courage to Be    by Jack Preston King
Price: $0.99 USD. 1780 words. Published by New Paradigm Press  on March 17, 2010. Nonfiction.

What better definition could you ask for the word "anxiety?" The weight that isn't there. The weight of wasted potential, of what might have been, of what's stalking us around life's next corner, of pending deadlines, the unmet expectations of others... The weight that isn't there outweighs them all. But Michael also showed me, that night, anxiety's antidote -- the courage to be...
Steal This Hero: An Abbie Hoffman Love Song In Two Verses, One Chorus and a Coda    by Jack Preston King
Price: $0.99 USD. 4440 words. Published by New Paradigm Press  on March 17, 2010. Nonfiction.

Really?, I thought. Abbie Hoffman? The guy too dangerous to read? I remind you of him? By comparing me to Abbie, Mom had meant to insult me, to label me a full-fledged traitorous Anarcho-Communist freak. For me, what she'd done was hand me the keys to full membership in the Great Subversive WE. If I was to accept that membership, I reasoned, I'd better find out exactly who WE are. I stole the book.
