Janis Monroe

Biography

Janis I. Monroe grew up in a country setting on the outskirts of Watertown, NY. It wasn't until a third grade teacher took her aside and told her what a wonderful job she had done on writing a short story involving a space creature that she realized how talented she was as a writer, but she was young then and didn't have any prospects in a writing career. In eighth grad things began to change as creative writing assignments increased. First, it was poems and then short stories and with each, she revived good grades and her teacher was impressed by her work. Inspiration then began to flow and from then on, Janis thought more seriously about a writing career and began seriously writing short stories, poems, and lyrics.

Today, Janis continues to evolve as a writer and has advanced from poetry, short stories and lyrics, into the more challenging work of creating novels.

Credited to her name are the poems “Rain,” which has been published twice; “Christmas Joy” and “Ocean Prayer” have been featured in the chapbooks Seasons of Change Vol. XXIII (2000), Poets of the Year (2001), Fireside Christmas (2001) and a second edition of Poets of the Year (2002); were all published by the JMW Publishing Company.

]“Heat of the Night” was published in a British magazine, Poetic Hours, in the fall off 2001.

“Fear” was published on the website: http://www.geocities.com/spirithunter_007 in November of 2002.

“To Say Goodbye” was accepted for publication by Poetic Hours for the May 2003 issue.

“The River of Life” was published by Poetic Hours in 2005.

“Smiles” was published in the Vermont magazine Ever-Changing.

Monroe attended Sackets Harbor Central School from 1986-1999. She then took a distance learning course through Penn Foster Career School and earned her Freelance Writing degree in 2001.

In her free time, Janis enjoys reading, crafts, photography, outdoor activities such as horse-back riding, canoing, fishing and hiking. She loves to listen to the golden oldies from the 50s and 60s as well as Native American and Celtic music.
