Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is creation at its purest - there are no limitations to what you can write. And to be able to create something in a world that is so focused on dividing and breaking down things, it just feels fresh.
What's your take on some of the controversy behind your book "Pale Eyes"?
In the time since making that book public, I've heard a lot of feedback, and not all of it positive. First, I just want to say that I get where their concerns are coming from. "Pale Eyes" is a book that is heavily rooted in Greek mythology, a canon that has remained immensely influential and stable over the centuries. And I'll be the first to admit that I do take a few artistic liberties here and there. But as someone who has been fascinated by Greek mythology for years, taking courses on the subject, reading everything from the Iliad to the Odyssey to Theogony to the surviving tragedies, I understand what this mythology means to people. So while the book diverges here and there, I absolutely believe that it remains true to the spirit of that mythology. And as for the ending...well, while the book ends there, the story doesn't. It's meant to be the first in a series of books following the gods. While I won't divulge too many details about the next story, I'll just say that it puts Poseidon into a more prominent role. But I'll only write it if people want me to.
