Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
The idea for "Transparency" came to me when I went to see the classic movie "On the Waterfront" with Marlon Brando. What a powerful message that great movie had -- One man against an enormous organization or great odds can overcome... He can make a difference in changing wrong into right. Bryce Barron is caught up in a slick life with no meaning. Until he meets Beth again, he hasn't a clue how to redeem himself or deal with his father's death. With Beth's help, Bryce becomes a man with a mission, a cause to throw a monkey wrench into the business practice of corporate raiding. He's basically Don Quixote tilting against the windmills, until he does the unpredictable and unexpected. I love to mix unusual elements together in my stories too, so Beth is a concert pianist-- an opposite to bad boy Bryce, the hostile takeover expert. It would take someone like Beth to get through to him. Music, too, played a big part in the story. Bach's 'Joy' is a crucial key to Bryce's redemption. Just listen to it sometime and see if you aren't uplifted... Enjoy the story!
What are you working on next?
Next up is a new series about the central coastal area of California, specifically Avila Beach, and winemaking in all its glory. The first book, "Winemaker's Dilemma" sets up the series with the winemaker, Scott Granger, and how he overcomes his winemaking conflict with the love of his life, Melissa Meyers. I have visited this area of California for twenty years or more, and absolutely love the place and the wineries. I've researched the process of winemaking with several area winemakers and so the problems presented in my story are real ones... The problems that the wineries are facing with the ongoing California drought are real as well. The solution presented in the book is very possible indeed...I hope you'll enjoy my winery stories as much as I enjoy writing them. Enjoy!

I liked this very much. It reminded me of an old Bugs Buuny cartoon ( sorry if that offends), where Daffy Duck goes from one setting and job to another - cowboy, pilot. It turns out Bugs was creating him as the story went along. Nicely written. Interesting British terms: pulled tongues. The American version is 'stuck his tongue out'. Enjoyable...
