When I got home from work, I quickly grabbed a healthy snack and got settled in, so I could read this story ASAP. The thought of curling up with a zero-cal cookie adventure was enticing, so I downloaded the book and immediately began reading it on my PC.
My addiction is more of the cookie-based kind, actually, so reading about cookies is generally a good distance for me. But what I learned in 12-step meetings is that we can help ourselves and each other most by "sharing our experience, strength and hope." We do so by lightening up, by laughing at ourselves, yet being sincere.
This book is all of that. Exactly. And delivered with Sean's hilarious take on life, recipes, and glimpses of people and places, I was so glad I read it. I don't even have an oven here, so I can't bake cookies ...which is a blessing indeed! So, this story gave me the best of that holiday bliss, in a form that I gobbled up with joy!
My final thought is that this is a great model for memoir writing. It's tough to write honestly, humorously without bashing someone, but Sean does a great job of walking that fine line. Kudos! Thank you!
