Joan Meijer is the author of over 20 books and 35 short stories under a variety of pen names including the ground breaking "MetaFitness:Your Thoughts Taking Shape" co-authored with Suzy Prudden.
Her most consistently best selling story "Relentless: The Search for Typhoid Mary" has been greeted with much acclaim. It is a fictionalization of Mary Mallon - Typhoid Mary - based on the little information that is available about her. It also displays the amazing birth of microbiology and the discovery of the cause of typhoid which had been such a devastating disease until the moment of Mary's identification as a carrier.
"Date Rape: It's Not Your Fault is a non-fiction book about how to avoid rape and if you can't how to recover. It is packed with information about how to profile rapists, how to keep yourself out of danger, what actions you should take if you are raped.
"The Provenance" Meijer's first work of fiction is based on a true rescue that happened in New York in 1985 when a 35-ton building crane tipped over an unprotected sidewalk - 30 feet above a cellar hole, pinning a heroic woman by the legs in constant danger of dropping to the floor below. Meijer - herself a New York City Paramedic - tells the tale of the rescue in thrilling detail as each of the steps the city takes to save her fails and in the street amputation comes closer and closer to being the most dangerous and possible only way to save her.
"The Initiative" is a medical thriller - She wrote under the name of John Russell who writes her thrillers. Once again delving into a medical mystery - this time in modern times as Cassandra Williams investigates an anthrax outbreak in New York City that could only be caused by germ warfare. Mid-way through the investigation she discovers that terrorists have an anthrax bomb they intend to deploy over New York and she joins forces with Senator Richland Powell in a heroic and frantic effort to save the city. This is the first of a Cassandra Williams series.
"The President's Dirty Little Secret" is Meijer's written as John Russell most recent medical thriller with a political edge. The story is about David McLaughlin - once ace reporter now in the limbo of writing obits for his paper after blowing the most important story of his career. McLaughlin's wife and new husband are brutally murdered after Dr. Reginald Hotchkiss tells McLaughlin that he has some terrifying evidence that hints at a scandal. McLaighlin must keep himself and his daughter alive long enough to solve the murders and several others that follow.
"Accidental Consequences" is an Atomic Thriller which provides an alternative outcome to what might have happened after Valerie Plame was outlines - as a loose nuke is sent to a city near you.
"The Bridge" (a soon to be released work in progress) is a cautionary tale about what we might expect of America continues to ignore repairing our infrastructure.

"The first big thing that hit me ... is a specific talent that Joan has as a writer that I've rarely seen... Throughout the book we're presented with several characters who have contracted the anthrax virus through one means or another. In a matter of a few short paragraphs, Joan was able to make me care about those characters.
