Richard Freeland

Publisher info

I write horror and thriller fiction as well as non-fiction about gardens and landscapes. I'm a fair singer/songwriter, and a family man. I love to travel and hike with my wife Martha, play a little tennis when my bum knees let me, make and sip a great margarita, play on the water with boats, and go on adventures with my two boys.

I also love Jekyll Island, Georgia, our home-away-from-home, and have another website devoted just to our adventures on this wonderful island (www.jekyll-island-family-adventures.com).

Hope you enjoy my writing, and keep a weather eye out for "Seed", my upcoming novel. You can preview it at DragonLyre Publishing.

Smashwords Interview

Your latest book is "Equinox - Six Declinations", a compilation of short stories. What's the story behind the book?
I'd been playing around with a few ideas, and over time had accumulated a stable of short stories, even published a few on on-line ezines like Fool-Motley (now defunct), Dark Fire, and eFiction, but hadn’t really tried to do much with them. I finally figured that I wasn't getting any younger, so I’d best put them out there, and see what developed.

I sent a few out to the print magazines, and had a several bites (along with a plethora of rejection slips!) so thought an ebook compilation might be a better way to go.

There are six stories in "Equinox: Six Declinations", ranging from horror to traditional quest fantasy to suspense.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Riches! Fame! Fortune! No, really. I like to write, like to explore ideas and situations. But what's a writer without a reader? I wanted to reach more people than just my friends and family! Then there's that whole fame and fortune thing...

Great story by an outstanding author of suspense utilizing a unique twist with flair and imagination. If you thought walking past a graveyard was frightening, wait til the grave comes to you! Highly recommended. Hopefully, Crawthorne will see fit to expand this into a full-length novel, and further develop his protagonist for all our enjoyment.
