Joe Keppler
Biography
Joe would first like to thank you for checking out his page and taking the time to spend some time here with him!
Joe Keppler has been actively engaged in nearly every aspect of the home building industry since the mid-1970's. He's worked at just about every level and position you can think of. To this day, Joe is one of the most sought-after consultants to both home builder and buyer on the east coast.
But even though home building is where Joe carved out his niche in life, his first true passion lies in writing.
From his early teens, Joe would often be seen carrying around a notebook full of poems and thoughts that came to him. At the time, this was a perfect outlet for the several bands he was in. But as the years went by, Joe began to expand his skills and quickly cut through the pages of such smaller notebooks as he started to write more than just prose.
Though it wasn't a boon for his bandmates, Joe realized that, through the power of the short story, he could communicate with others - and even himself! - in a much more articulated, exciting way.
Joe's first novel, Stix N' Brix, was very much a product of both his passion for writing and his strong understanding and expertise when it came to home building.
He would often drive from one jobsite to the next, observing some very interesting things in his travels and work, and talking with both industry professional and "average Joe" homebuyer alike about their experiences in the building world.
What Joe found was that some of the "stranger than fiction" stories that his builder friends told, while unerringly engaging and thrilling, were not stories that any builder would really want to share with a potential customer.
Though they weren't always scandalous in nature, Joe knew from both passed along accounts as well as personal experience that there were things that went on during the production of a person's home that would not only potentially shock the customer outright, but very possibly cause them to run away from the process in alarm.
It was this sort of "behind the curtain" mentality that began to fester in Joe's head and take shape in what would eventually become Joe's first novel, Stix N' Brix: The story of a home building company on the brink of collapse, and one man's journey to save it in the face of deceit, corruption and much more physical and direct danger.
A huge fan of action novels - Joe habitually seeks out any and every Baldacci, Grisham, Childs and Flynn novel there is - Joe realized that the often volatile world of home building surprisingly shared many of the same crazy characteristics and drama that make up the best court-room thrillers, political epics and detective novels out there.
And this is where Joe hopes to carve out a nice niche and tell his stories - within the often overlooked world of home building. A world that very few truly about, yet most of us invest an incredibly significant part of our time and money in.
