Dav Santos

Biography

Many things inspire poet and fiction writer Dav Santos. Chief among them are the visual and emotion of blackness, Oriental Asian food, Korean pop music, video gaming, and his personal struggles with epilepsy and diabetes. He'd taken up both bachelor's degrees in Information Technology and English Literature at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines and Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan respectively in his hometown of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. When he isn’t writing and working on new ideas for his books, Dav enjoys songwriting, singing and dancing, plus going "gg ez" on a couple of hard-stuck silver matches in League of Legends or chilling with friends on their relatively peaceful Minecraft server. I forgot to mention he loves the sound of rain at night, and the odd scent of dusk air as cars noisily honk on in a futile attempt to escape the rush hour.

There are many things lost in translation from thought to pen to paper to keyboard to screen. I want you to feel me, and I you. Words are trivial in the grand scheme of things, only a means to convey what the author intends the reader to feel. But what does the reader feel? If intent and interpretation become two separate things, then what? How will you know my heart and I yours?
Spark

A spark. Isn't that where everything began? The Big Bang began with a spark. When God said "Let there be light," it was miniscule at first, then it grew to fill the whole cosmos. But what happens as the light shines brightly for almost a perpetuity? In most cases, nothing really changes. It goes on and on and on. Then again, entropy exists, so what then? Love was the spark and you had ignited it.

There are times when I end up sleepless in bed, thinking hard to myself, about even the most minute or trite of things. Things escalate easily in my head. Love, life, self-image, self-esteem--things I tend to overthink. Take this journey with me, and overthink.

Exploring some of my deepest and darkest thoughts as I am thrust towards the second half of 2020, All I Want To Do Is Sleep, or AIWTDIS as I call it, expresses a dark period in my life where I felt like wanting to go to sleep and never waking up ever again. Short but sweet, Beneath Orange Sunsets is a collection of a few dozen or so poems that tackle this unusual circumstance the author has found himself in. In his debut work, Dav Santos expresses his experiences with love and friendship through the language of heartbreak, which somehow seems to follow him around.
