Lakisha Spletzer

Biography

I'm an Indie Cross-Genre writer of science fiction/fantasy. I started writing stories and poetry at the age of 8 and haven't stopped yet.

I think I've always been a writer, but becoming a published one took a lot of work and dedication. That didn't happen until after I left my home state of Virginia, and moved to Florida in 2004.

I've learned to not let life's many road blocks and speed bumps throw me to the curb. I can't wait to dive in and continue to share the stories swirling around in my head.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do. It was called, "The Elf and the Fruit Bowl." My mom saved the original notebook page it was on because it received and Honorable Mention in a writing contest our local PTA had offered.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't really like using the word "fan" because it originally came from the word "fanatic." I prefer to say readers or book lovers.

My readers mean the world to me because they offer a lot of encouragement, insights, and sometimes corrections to my story lines. I really do enjoy hearing what they think of my writing, my characters and the crazy paths I choose to take them down in my worlds.

I really don't think writing would be the same without all the feedback.

In a field saturated with a flood of vampire books in recent years, it's been rather hard to find one that is unique enough to capture my interest. In fact, I was about ready to give the whole genre a nice long vacation before returning to it. Then I met the author at a Con and decided to take a chance on this book. Granted it took me a while to actually read the book (life, my own writing and a host of other distractions), but when I did, I was hooked. I don't like spoilers so I will do my best not to give any but, this book (which is one of three) kept me on the edge of my seat while thoroughly engaging me in the main characters' story. There were times I laughed so hard I cried and times when I cried so hard you would think a second deluge was coming. But through it all the plot, setting and characters kept me riveted. I WILL be getting book #2: The Beasts Within and reading it as well.
