  • The Congregation on Aug. 24, 2012

This was the first time I've read this author's work, and I must say, it was awesome! Right away, The Congregation pulls you into the lives of several of the members; you find yourself saying, "I know someone just like that!" The Congregation doesn't disappoint; it tricks you into thinking that you know how a chapter or situation is going to end, only to find out that you were dead wrong! The ending was truly a "ooohhhhh, no she didn't!" My mouth was hung wide open! The author even included a book discussion guide, which I thought was very thoughtful. I'm a new fan of Hashim Conner, & I'm sure you will be too!
  • Unapologetic: A Novel on Sep. 03, 2013

*I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* Unapologetic by Ms. Donetha Polite, is about young Januari , who goes through more tragedy in her young life than anyone should have to, and Shareece, who wants what she wants, when she wants it, which is right now. These two girls' lives get intertwined when they meet the Pettigrews, a couple who step in to help these teenagers out. I enjoyed the premise of the book, and could definitely relate to the characters, especially because I have teenage nieces of my own. There is definitely a message in this story that can be learned by young and old alike. Unapologetic was my first read by Ms. Polite, and I must say, a pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

  • Unpretty Secrets on May 18, 2015

I've been a big fan of Ms. Patterson's for quite a while now. What I love about her books is that she always writes about real issues, and draws you in immediately. Her stories flow effortlessly, she seasons the story with lots of drama. I always look forward to reading her books, because I know that she's going to bring the heat! I'd recommend this book to everyone!
  • The Real Hood Wives of St. Pete. on May 18, 2015

This book had heart; you loved the characters, hated them, gasped through the drama, fall out laughing at some of the crazy antics going on. Teresa brought these characters to life, and then allowed them to speak through her. If you like drama, comedy, and a well-written story, you will like this book, I guarantee it!
  • Dissolution on Aug. 07, 2015

This was my first read by author JL Campbell, and I have to be honest. This book had so much island flavor, I felt as if I were sitting in the character's living room, listening to them converse. Ms. Campbell's writing is vivid, colorful, and realistic. This book had me laughing in a couple of spots, crying in others, and fighting mad. Even though it is fiction, it touches on a very real subject, infidelity. There is a message in this well-written story, and if I had to sum it up in two words, it would be forgiveness and compassion. The story is easy to follow, and quickly engages the reader; you find yourself swiftly immersed in the book. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone!
