I like reading books by new authors, but it is very risky, because you never know what you are going to get. However, this was definitely a good choice.
The story is unique and captivating, and, most importantly, incredibly believable. Although it spans hundreds of years, with the same, basic characters, you really feel like you are unlocking, and witnessing, an amazing secret of life. You don't need to believe in the concept of reincarnation, to get swept up in the beauty of the story.
It has concise detail, and is effectively descriptive, to capture the time and feel of each era that the book passes through, but it never gets tedious or boring. It is just enough to make you feel like you are actually in the moment, in order to move on with the story. The story moves quickly and it is an easy read, but not light in concept. It is thought-provoking, and, in moments, jarring, but it creates an ultimate sense of hope and happiness.
I would definitely recommend this book, and it will be interesting to read the other books by this author, to see if they maintain the same intriguing quality of story. I hope so! Because this one was a winner.
