Michael LaRocca

Biography

Michael LaRocca was included in the 1982 Who's Who in American Writing before vanishing from the literary scene for 20 years. His published works include a short story anthology, nine novels, and seven nonfiction works.

Michael lived in China for six years, Thailand for five years, and Vietnam for one year before returning to North Carolina. He's a reading junkie, a bicycle nut, an avid hiker, and an NFL addict. His wife is from Australia and their 16-year-old world-travelling Calico cat is from Hong Kong. He says, "I bring home the best souvenirs."

Michael has been a medical lecturer, an English teacher, a technical editor, a purchasing manager, a computer programmer, a repo man, an unarmed security guard with a bad attitude, a dishwasher, a busboy, a military electronics specialist, a house cleaner, a gas pumper, a car washer, and a pet sitter. He's also been paid to masturbate hogs, but he made sure nobody took photos.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
If an idea doesn't move me enough for me to spend a year with it, it's not worth writing about.

I start with characters and conflict, and finally a first chapter. That probably takes as long as writing the rest of the book. My characters tell me what they're going to do, and I'm sorry if that sounds weird.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I lived in China for six years, Thailand for five, and Vietnam for one. When I got home in 2011, I raided the local library like a beast. Once I finally exhausted that resource, I bought a Kindle. I love it.
