"Any obstacle can be overcome," says Vancouver Island author, Laura Hesse.
"It's all about attitude and never, ever, giving up. Not every story is broadcast on the evening news. Most heroes are every-day people. That is who I write about. That is what thrills me. The result was the creation of the Hannah Storey and Johnny Joe characters in One Frosty Christmas, June Stetler in the teen/adult adventure, Two Independents, and Sgt Betty Bruce in Gumboots, Gumshoes & Murder."
Laura branched into screenwriting several years ago and placed in the semi and quarter finals with One Frosty Christmas and A Filly Called Easter in the prestigious Page Awards. They are now optioned to Select Services Films.
"I knew I hit the mark though when several mainstream publishers who first looked at One Frosty Christmas told me it was a lovely little story that would never sell. The first print run of 500 sold out in 3 days, the second print run of 1,000 sold out in two months, and the third print run of 5,000 sold out shortly thereafter...and that was just from word-of-mouth and a lot of miles on my truck. In 2009, I discovered e-books and Frosty soared to the top 50 in YA children's Christmas book sales and A Filly Called Easter ranked 5th in Easter books on Amazon."
