  • Sentence of Marriage (Promises to Keep: Book 1) on July 19, 2011

Hard to believe this book gets 5 stars from almost everyone. About 1/3 of the book appears to be about rape. A vulnerable girl taken advantage of. This probably does have something to do with the plot, but I don't believe detailed, page-after-page descriptions are necessary. I probably should have read one of the other books first. This does give me a negative reason for e-books, tho. At least with a paper book it would be easier to skip past the multiple and unnecessary rape details.
  • Murder at Bear Ranch on Feb. 19, 2014

Well written, interesting, an excellent read. So glad I found this author. I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars, but my only problem with the book is the lack of proofreading. Poor punctuation and lots of inappropriate spell-checking (for instance, columbine instead of combine) do interrupt the flow. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable read and the author earned at least 5 stars. Style, characterization, plot. ... All great. Thank you for your work. I hope you are writing another. Please let me proof it for you. ;)
  • Flash Gold on March 13, 2014

What a rare, amazing, and thorough delight. Excellent story, we'll written and perfectly edited.
  • Hunted (The Flash Gold Chronicles, #2) on March 17, 2014

Where are the rest of the flash gold books? My cash is burning a hole in my hand wanting to buy.
  • Death at Lampier on March 18, 2014

Well written, good stories. Awkward editing doesn't interrupt reading so fat add to actually lose a star. I keep looking for the next book.
  • Letters to Abigail on Dec. 26, 2014

A little stiffly written, but it's a war story. Flowery prose would hardly be appropriate. Perfectly edited. I felt the streampunk element was drawn too simply, but maybe that is a limitation of a short story. Certainly an interesting evolutionary concept, but I won't describe it because I don't want to be a spoiler.
  • SONGS FOR A MACHINE AGE - by HEATHER McDOUGAL on Dec. 28, 2014

I am only on chapter 3 but I'm craving to write a review, because no one has. She's a great writer, her plot is interesting and unusual, and her characterizations are excellent. I'm so excited; this book is a gift.
  • SONGS FOR A MACHINE AGE - by HEATHER McDOUGAL on Jan. 01, 2015

I am crying at this beautiful book. Beautifully written, beautifully conceived, beautifully executed. I guess no one has written a review because they are too moved and into another world to stop and write a critique.
  • Humanity on Jan. 02, 2015

It appears I am writing two reviews per book, especially when there are no others. I'm not finished reading at this point. The writing is somewhat puerile, but it is perfectly edited and I am not distracted by errors. Also, I am remarkably intrigued by his story and find it easy and interesting to stay in his world. So for now it is 5 stars and I hope it keeps its promise to the end.
  • Humanity on Jan. 04, 2015

The book is not perfectly edited and there are many errors, particularly missing words. But, it's still 5 star. Great, strange, dark, creative.
  • Electric Elizabeth: A Novel on Jan. 05, 2015

Beautifully crafted, incredibly imagined, written with rich power.
