Excellent story. I read this out loud to my three daughters because I find that there are not enough female lead characters in youth fiction. They all loved it. We all want to know more about the characters and the colony.
I'm going to share this with one of the 5th grade teachers at my daughter's school. I was just talking to her the other day about a Sci-fi writing assignment that she gave to her students. What she got back was a lot of "humans fly to distant planet and start fighting with native species." She realized that this is what they think Sci-fi is. I really enjoyed this novel. It has just the right mix of adventure, suspense, and humor, with a touch of romance thrown in.
Richard Sanders does an excellent job of character development. Even the peripheral characters are very well done, making them meaningful to the story, and to the reader. The main characters are interesting, intelligent, and witty. I enjoyed the interaction between them very much.
I highly recommend it, and you sure can't beat a good book for free!!
