Marvin Wolf
Biography
I grew up on Chicago's South Side, the oldest boy in a large, working-class family. We moved to Los Angeles when I was 16 and my father struggled to support the family. To help out I worked as a dishwasher to get through high school, then joined the Army at age 17. I served as an infantryman, a Ranger School instructor, a D.I. and got out when I was 20. I sold books door-to-door, then sold cameras, then re-upped and went to Vietnam as a combat photographer. After the Army I worked in corporate communications for a few years, then went out on my own as a free lance photographer and writer. I've been very lucky to do well enough at this to support myself and my family. I now have published a dozen nonfiction books, had a couple of screenplays produced, and penned more magazine pieces than I can count. I turned to fiction in 2010. I'm divorced and live with my adult daughter and her fierce but lovable dog in a shady neighborhood on L.A.'s West Side. When I'm not writing or making photographs, I serve as volunteer treasurer to a small Conservative synagogue.
And that's the truth.
