Debra and Mark Meehl

Biography

Mark and Debra Meehl live in Brazoria, Texas, where they maintain a residential treatment program for bipolar disorder. Mark is bipolar and spends his days writing for the Meehl Foundation and working at the Meehl House, where he says he is the perfect house-husband.
“The Meehl Foundation’s work is based on our living every day with Bipolar Disorder in our marriage and our home,” says Debra. “We bring a real understanding of the challenges faced by partners, families and friends trying to live with this illness. We know that mental illness affects everyone, not just the person suffering from the illness. Understanding this, the Foundation provides people with real answers to their questions, and techniques that are proven, to help them live with Bipolar Disorder in their lives.”
Debra divides her time between speaking engage-ments, writing, working as a pastoral counselor and as a DBT therapist and a life skills trainer. This is the second edition of their first book, first published in 2005.
The couple is currently working on a companion book to the Survival Guide, which is scheduled for publication in early 2012.
